Glitzy ceremony saw awards going to inspirational Asian professionals from across the UK

The achievements of British men and women at the height of their professions were recognised on Friday night at the Asian Professional Awards 2015 at the Grange City Hotel in the City of London. Nominees from the length and breadth of Britain were joined by leaders of industry at the event, which saw awards given out in categories as diverse as Public Service, Banking & Finance, Pharmacy, and Media.

Over 250 people were in attendance at the event which was hosted by the renowned BBC broadcasters Sunny and Shay. Amongst the many winners was Mohammad Adel Moufti, who won the Dentistry Award. Born in Syria and having studied at Damascus University before moving to the UK 15 years ago, his acceptance speech was particularly moving as he asked all of the attendees to “keep Syria in your hearts and in your prayers” at this difficult time.

Prime Minister David Cameron sent a message of support, in which he said “we can look forward with great confidence tomorrow in the knowledge that award winners and nominees will no doubt inspire younger generations to follow in their footsteps, helping to take our whole country from strength to strength.”

First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, also endorsed the awards with a message, saying “Scotland’s success on the world stage is built on innovation and a rich and diverse cultural heritage. The Asian community has played an invaluable role in creating a Scotland that I am proud of.

Harry Virdee, a Director of the Asian Professional Awards, said “One of the reasons why we established these awards was to help create a new generation of role models for all people in the UK to look up to, regardless of background or ethnicity. Hard working professionals rarely get the opportunity to celebrate their successes, and these awards give such people a platform from which to inspire others to follow in their footsteps as well as acknowledge their accomplishments to date.

Following on from the success of Friday night, nominations for the Asian Professional Awards 2016 will open in mid-March 2016 and the ceremony will take place in October 2015.
